This is a low-force compression testing jig made from 3mm thick MDF on a 24"x18" laser cutter. It works with a set of weights to create a moment about a pivot point. The test specimen resists the moment. It is suitable for teaching about Moments (Torque) and
Column Buckling (for loads up to about 75N)
I have posted a Youtube video describing it's use to https://youtu.be/D3uR74XVNJs
It would probably handle greater loads with a 6mm thick load arm... feel free to modify the included Fusion 360 design. I've left it all at 3mm for ease of manufacture.
I have included "full sheet" drawings suitable for producing class sets as well as the original, individual part profiles. Each jig requires:
Bottom Gussets (5)
Bottom One Side (1)
Bottom Other Side (1)
Loading Surface (1)
Tower Outline (2)
Tower Gusset (1)
Top Tower Brace (1)
Arm (1)
Bottom Tower Brace (1)
2 x 1/4" (or 6mm) nuts with bolts. 3/4" long works nicely.
I use the testing jig so the students can develop
