This is a thumb stud for easy one handed opening of the Leatherman Surge, Charge or Wave.The gap is present for letting the blades lock when opening pliers. If it is removed, th stud will slide out a bit everytime the pliers are openedPressure fit! No need for glue! Though it may loosen if you remove it too many times.
