I had some extra 12V LED strips lying around and thought I would try to make my own 7 Segment out of it. I haven't used this in a circuit yet; need to get out the shift registers and transistors. But I have tested with my bench supply and it seems to work OK.
I suggest printing out of a higher temp plastic or soldering the connections before sticking them down. I made a mess out of the back of the print with my soldering Iron -- because I printed in PLA.
I had planned to use RGB strip, but after thinking about wiring for that I decided to do a less challenging version. This should work fine with standard 5050 12V LED strip (each segment is one segment of that).
You may want to consider running these LEDS at 9v instead of 12, they are very bright at 12V.
