Lenght adjustable try square (combination square) from an aluminium C-profile.
I wanted to have a length-adjustable square with a large projection. The commercially available models were too imprecise, inflexible and ridiculously expensive. As a basis I have used a standard aluminium C profile. These are extruded and have low manufacturing tolerances. They are cheap and can be bought anywhere on the Internet.
I have decided on a narrow profile with the dimensions 11 x 17 x 4.5 x 2 mm. The right-angled handle has a through-hole adapted to the profile. It also has an additional fence, which makes it easier to mark large workpieces. Inside the profile, a carriage designed with little slack runs with.
The carriage is tapered at the top so that it automatically aligns itself at right angles to the profile when the screws are tightened together with the handle.
The following is required:
2x M5x15 mm, HEX
2x M5 nut
1x 11 x 17 x 4.5 x 2 mm aluminium C profile
Print instruction
