I did not like the diffusors that touched the lamp because they do not diffuse the light very well. I increased the distance from the diffusor to the lamp which works much better (as can be seen in the pictures). The outer ring fits on top of the lamp kit. The inner ring serves as a spacer which increases the diffusion effect.
