Lay the strip of paper over the fourth side, so that when the printer starts bridging across it on about layer 7, the paper will act as a support and the opening will not be sealed shut (see attached picture). You want something kind of short for the bridging support, like a piece of paper or thin card stock, so that the slot is a little short and therefore holds the "sliding door" in place.
