I needed a ring light to support all-day video conferences. I have windows directly behind me at my desk and the daytime light drowns out the image. Ring lights are expensive and I had a dimmable LED strip laying around from a previous project, so I decided to make a frame and put them in it.
The LED strip and dimmer I used is this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MHLIFO8
Based on other designs and comments I decided to cut some sheet metal as a backing for the LEDs to dissipate the heat but after putting it together and using it a bit I think the metal is not required. The LEDs generate very little heat and I believe could be stuck directly onto the back of the plastic. However, I have not tested this and your mileage may vary.
The idea is simple: LEDs in a circle with a diffuser over them. Two pieces make the kit, and it is fitted specifically for a Logitech C920/C920S based on a light ring by Eunchan Park (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2814571)
