🚗 Dash Cam Magnetic Cable Threader – No Trim Removal, No Tears, Just Smooth Sailing!Great Scott! So I was installing a rear-view dash cam, and naturally, it needed a cable running all the way to the back of the car. I started trying to route it neatly along the edge... then thought, why not go straight across above the roof lining? (Spoiler: it was a good idea.)Now, you could use cable rods or snake pullers, but where’s the fun in that? I wanted a cleaner, slicker solution. So I grabbed some 50lb fishing line (strong, flexible, and light), a super-strong magnet, and designed these nifty little 3D-printed threaders. Each threader holds an M5 penny washer, glued in place and topped with a smooth PLA cover so nothing snags or scratches. I used the magnet from outside the roof to guide the threader across the space between the roof liner and the car roof—no panels popped, no trim removed, no unsightly holes made.Once the threader reached the other side, I simply tied on the dash cam cable and pulled it back through. Job done. No fuss. No drama. Just 3D-printed wizardry in action! Why I Made ThisI love 3D printing. It’s like having a superpower for problem-solving—and when an idea actually works, it feels amazing. I don’t sell these; I make them for fun, for the challenge, and to share the joy of creating something that actually fixes a real-world problem. If this helps you, or sparks an idea of your own, I’d love to hear about it!💬 Drop a comment🛠 Suggest something you need designing🧠 Spot an improvement?
