Mahjong Scoring Sticks

Scoring Sticks (counting sticks, betting sticks, bones, tallies, counters, tenbo [点棒]) like chips, are used to keep score. Sticks have different number of spots which correspond to different denominations. Chinese sets contain at least 116 sticks; Western 84; Japanese 68.

For Riichi Mahjong the amount of sticks required for each kind is:
