The early mars base station is made up from the same rocket that takes off from earth (with the human occupants) and lands on mars, This specially designed spacecraft carries two or three specially made modules. This module and spacecraft design, minimises unneeded weight at takeoff and the leftover spacecraft at mars. The modules also keeps the cost of the base as low as possible.
(During the flight to mars the modules also act as living space)
When the spacecraft has landed on mars, the crew disassemble the rocket from the modules, then moves the modules into position and all they need to do now is accessible the legs and the solar panels on top of the modules.
