3D Printed Malaise Trap Head printed in PLA has been tested under field conditions for entomologist use in sampling insects and other field and laboratory applications. It fits into a 4" PVC coupler socket, positioned above a screen to push insects up into the trap. The trap contains a reservoir for chemical agents and can be plugged with a rubber stopper.
Users are encouraged to experiment and modify the design.
Designed as a collaboration between Kipling Will (Director of the Essig Museum of Entomology, University of California, Berkekey, CA) and Ian Steplowski (3D Artist / 3D Printing hobbyist).
More information can be found in a full research paper, to become available via UC Berkeley in 2016.
Enjoy!
