I purchased a small, lightweight tripod from Manfrotto (MKCOMPACTLT), but the default mount wouldn't simply take the tripod head I primarily use with my camera (comes with 1/4-20 head attached to the stem).
In order to use my tripod head, I needed the larger thread (3/8-16) so I designed a stem to replace the default one that would take an appropriately sized bolt from the hardware store.
This piece is designed for a 3" bolt, but can be shortened in most slicers without concern (just make sure to leave about 1/4-3/8" above the surface; most bolt measurements don't include the head, so make this piece the same published length of the bolt as the head is recessed).
