This model represents the Mari Lwyd, the eerie, skeletal horse figure of Welsh midwinter tradition. Rooted in the wassailing customs of South Wales, the Mari Lwyd ("Grey Mare") is carried door to door during the Christmas season, often accompanied by singers engaging in pwnco—a kind of poetic battle of wits. Adorned with ribbons and a sheet, the Mari traditionally brings both laughter and unease, its skull mask and hollow eyes cutting a striking figure against the cold season’s dark nights. While once fading from practice, the Mari Lwyd has experienced a folkloric revival in recent years—emerging not only in parades and pubs but also as an enduring symbol of cultural resilience and liminality. Printed in Bambu Basic Blue-Grey for the base and Bambu Basic White for the skull and fabric, this model prints cleanly (see pictures)
