I went through many designs before sticking with this one, looming, gigantic and foreboding. I imagine this models as a couple of rocks sculpted by magic in the fashion of fiendish hands, which serve as the boundaries where the arcane maelstrom of the portal appears to people who dare cross the boundary between realms. These hands may seem welcoming, but only to the reckless.
