Modele 1897

The Modele 1887 is among the most successful field guns developed by France. Chambered in 75mm, the artillery piece is able to achieve considerable range with a large payload. Its revolutionary design included a hydraulic recoil mechanism, allowing the gun to be fired rapidly without needing to be re-aimed between shots. The gun soldiered through the trenches of the Great War and into the Second Word War. The Mle 1887 remains in use to this day for avalanche mitigation in the Alps.
