Modernist Shelf ClockI recently visited a client and was inspired by a Modernist clock made from sheet metal, elegantly displayed on the edge of their bookshelf. What truly caught my attention was how the clock hands swept below the shelf’s edge, creating a striking and unique visual effect. I’ve recreated that design here in my 3D model, blending it with inspiration from the iconic De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill, East Sussex—a modernist masterpiece built in 1935 near my home.Key Features:• Clock Mechanism: This design is compatible with standard clock movement mechanisms, available on Etsy for around £6 (e.g., this one). I recommend selecting 72mm hour and minute hands and the long spindle option for the best fit. • Added Weight for Stability: Hidden cutouts in the design allow for 25mm circular pennyweights, providing extra stability. Each cutout accommodates two weights (a pack of 50 costs about £10).• Customisable Numerals: If you’d like to personalize the clock’s numerals and hour markers, I’ve included the Fusion 360 (f3d) files which you can find here on the Printables file site.. My design uses the Bauhaus 93 font for a modernist look (available with MS Word).• Stylish Contrast with Filament Swaps: To highlight the hour markers and numerals, I used a filament swap at layer 19, switching from Eryone Matte Black to Eryone Gold Silk. This creates a bold, elegant contrast.Printing Tips:1. G-code Pause for Weights: Plan a G-code pause during printing to securely embed the pennyweights before continuing the print.2. Color Change for Contrast: Add a pause at the appropriate layer to swap the filament and enhance the visibility of the clock’s numbers. Black and gold work particularly well for this design.3.
