Just a nice water-tight, manifold, 3d-friendly STL molecular model of Alanine! See my profile for others. Some I have printed and some I haven't gotten to yet. I do take molecule requests but I'm not necessarily fast about it :)
I use these to teach my kids about chemistry. Alanine is useful because it is part of lots of proteins and I can compare and contrast it to Glucose and Carbohydrates (like Lactose, see my other models) to show that they are different and why one needs to eat different types of foods to get all the bits and pieces your body needs.
For FDM these will need lots of supports and careful planning. I look forward to seeing some SLM versions, which should be easier.
The images are from various points in the modeling process. All molecules are subject to computational atomic bond optimization and simulation to get the correct bond angles. The atomic "ball" is scaled linearly with atomic radius, although the absolute radius shown is still just for modeling and e
