I put the sensor in a mounting bracket so I can change its battery in a few years.
The bracket and magnet are attached with double-faced foam tape.
My windows have a handle that protrudes into the room, so I can't reach the handle to close it with the window screen in place. So, I put the magnet on the screen - the sensor reads "closed" when the screen is in place, and "open" when I've removed the screen to close the window.
Because of the overhangs on the sensor bracket, I print it vertically with bottom supports.
I connected the Zigbee sensor to Home Assistant, and set up a pair of automations: When I put the screen in the window, set the HVAC system to off. When I take the screen out of the window, restore the HVAC system to heating or cooling if needed.
Simple, and I don't have to worry about paying to run the HVAC while the window is open.
