I was wanting to provide a little extra space for my effector when printing close to the edges of the bed. My existing column shields were a little too large so I designed new ones that hold lithos (since I added LED lighting inside the columns) that could be removed to provide easier access to the belt and motor gear.
The new guards connect inside the columns rather than into the outside grooves. They hold a piece of any material that has a thickness under 3mm and a width of about 55 mm. The frame itself is about 35mm high but you can place whatever height of plate in it that you want.
I Printed my lithos by cropping a photo and then applying a black frame. I import that image into Cura and allow it to create the litho with a width of 55 mm I keep the standard settings which are:
Height: 2.9mm
Base: 0.4mm
Width: 55mm
Darker is higher
The parts are a close fit so if your machine is not calibrated for size you might need to do some test prints for proper scaling. Printing a few
