So, I've had a set of jam jar/ mason jar style mugs for years. They originally came with silicone rings around the hole in the lid where the straw can go though. These quickly broke, as they were pressed between the metal lid and the straw. Their absence means that the straws can become scarred over time.
I designed a replacement ring to sit in the hole and protect the straws.
