Nålebinding is an old technique pre-dating both knitting and crochet. The direct translation from Norwegian is literary needle binding which describes this technique perfectly. Unlike knitting and crocheting that can be done with a skein, nålebinding is done with strands of yarn, that have to be joined together as you run out of yarn.

The technique produces a strong fabric that is impossible to frog, and if you for example have a mitten that has gotten a hole in it from a lot of use, you can cut of the tip and make a new one, or just use it as a fingerless mitten.

There are many techniques to lean but the easiest for beginners might be the Oslo Stitch matched with a thick yarn. You can find a video of how to do this stitch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcuUqeKQZ5Q (this YouTube user also have a lot of other nålebinding tutorials)
