Neil's Vent

My Ventus ventilator contest entry. My main goal was simplicity, in design, for installation and manufacture. At first glance it may appear to be restrictive but it is more open to free airflow than the standard current design. Key features are a new Louvered cover that adds to a better cleaner look, the louvers prevent splashed water to reach the vent intake yet let adequate air to pass through. The open "throat" design allows for a simple press of a thumb button and twist to set opening size, yet leaves no unsightly hardware visible. Installation is easy with only a few screws and some ABS cement the vent can be installed with only two cuts. One to the inner seal tube, and this is cut flush to the deck, sanded flush as needed, it is also what the inner cap assembly rides on when the vent is open/closed. The second cut is to the inner sleeve tube and it is cut ~6mm to 8mm longer than the inner seal tube. The cap is glued in place here and holds the inner tube assembly in place. Baffle and Cover are then screwed in place. The louvers on the cover are cut to widen the opening after the louver is punched to increase air flow. The reverse louver design also minimize any snag hazard. Thump button and spring lock are of a simple design to minimize failure and the effects of corrosion, yet will provide a positive lock. Inner cover ring is easily configured for a variety of styles from basic plastic to brass. The plastic can be PVC or ABS witch ever is best suited to marine use.
