I created these network rack backset spacers because I have a client with an enclosed rack that could no longer close the doors on it after mounting a new switch with fiber GBIC modules installed. The GBICs and the attached fiber optic cables stuck out too far. This was a quick and simple solution to push the switch back into the rack without having to pull out all of the other equipment to rearrange the mounting rails.
When printed on their side with a skirt, these print out nicely and are plenty strong enough when using ABS.
Both pieces comprise the spacer. There is a front plate which is basically works as a washer for the cage nut-style rack and the spacer itself which takes 4 cage nuts and screws to the back side of the rack rail. Finally your network device would screw into the cage nuts on the back side of the spacer. This will push the equipment back a good 1 1/2 inches in the rack giving your space for cabling should your door be a bit too tight.
Hopefully these thin
