*** Updated 20 January 2026
Skills involved: 3D printing, sanding, painting, drilling, gluing, small electric wire cutting and stripping, soldering.
The case was designed around a readily acquired and reasonably priced digital thermometer I procured through ebay. It floats on the pool surface and gives temperature readings to the 10th of a degree, usually within 20-30 seconds. We have had two in service over the past 6 months, and they are both working well.
*** The updated version has a redesigned Base and Extensions that are now attached by both glue and machine screws. The previous version had issues with the Extensions being knocked off; adding a screw should help reinforce the joint. I also recommend attaching the Base to the Case Bottom with epoxy.
The design includes 9 separate parts to produce 14 individual pieces. A text document is included describing printing and assembly, plus a list of materials needed.
Good luck with this, and I would be happy to see your work.
