Oven Door Latch

This project came of necessity. One day I found my 15 month old granddaughter opening the oven door. The oven is a split design with the oven on the bottom and the grill (smaller oven) on top. It is built-in to the kitchen base units. The latch is installed on the lower edge of the top oven door with the slide piece sitting below the top of the main oven door. Rotating the top piece of the latch lifts the slide to allow the oven door to open. Releasing the top piece lets the slide drop back into its locked position. When the oven door is closed again the slide rides up over the top of the door and locks behind it. For times when the oven door is frequently opened and closed, rotating the top of the latch fully clockwise locks the slide in the released position. Future versions will have an interlock to prevent the child from turning the top of the latch fully clockwise without pressing a button on the side.
