Parametric Lightweight MasterSpool
Parametric Design
- default parameters implements RichRap's MasterSpool specifications
- light weight with great stability (default 69 g using 1.24 g/cm^3 filament)
- can easily be made even more stable through variation of parameters
- can be made wider or narrower to fit your filament refills
- bolts together with 3 screws for secure assembly, no snagging on cable ties
- default requires 3 x M4 (40 mm length) screws with hex nuts
- can be adjusted to use non-metric screws
Philosophy
I was looking for a bolt-together Masterspool, preferrably of light weight. Twist assembly with a central thread didn't seem appropriate and incur a weight penalty. So I designed one that bolts together. It needs screws, but I'm confident they'll pay for themselves in terms of saved filament.
Assembly
- Put refill coil on spool
- Insert filament end in appropriate retaining hole
- Insert nuts and screws
- Tighten screws.
- Cut cable ties
