SolidWorks part and example STL files for a parametric spur gear. Various parameters and their descriptions are given below.
m: module or addendum
- distance between the pitch circle and the addendum circle
b: dedendum; by default, 1.25*m
- distance between the pitch circle and the root of the gear
p: citcular pitch
- distance between adjacent gear teeth
a: pressure angle
- *set to a value between 15-25 degrees*
- the angle chosen is not significant, as long as it's the same for all meshing gears and results in solutions without errors
z: the number of gear teeth
Here is the procedure for creating a set of meshing gears:
1. Right click on the equations property of the gear template and select [Manage Equations].
2. The values to change appear at the top: m, a, and z are typically the only properties which require modification.
3. Begin by setting a value for the addendum: 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. It's not significant what you choose here, but it will affect the final size of the gear,
