This video illustrates a fully 3D-printed parametric wrist orthosis concept. The model is open-source and was invented by Humanlab Saint-Pierre, an association dedicated to helping people with disabilities.
The digital file is customized and adapted to the desired size. The orthosis is then printed flat using standard PLA. The top and bottom layers of the print are deactivated to facilitate breathing and thermoforming. The EVA foam cover is cut using a laser cutter.
To modify and reproduce the orthosis, follow the video tutorial!
This brace was designed for a stroke patient who wanted to carry out manual tasks while keeping his wrist in a neutral position.
The specifications are simple:
- Keep the wrist in a neutral position
- Enable different gripping tasks to be carried out
The aim of this open source project is to provide access to a made-to-measure brace for people with similar problems.
The software used is fusion360, PrusaSlicer and RDcam (for laser cutting).
