PEA Cage Trusses

This is an model of the trusses of the Cage that served the student athletes of Phillips Exeter Academy from 1929 until 2014. During its 85 years of function, thousands of student athletes formed unique memories and thrived through priceless experiences while in that field house, such as my father who knows he cleared 13' pole vaulting only because he cleared the height of the raised track that ran around the perimeter (the blueprints disagree; the track was at only 10' 6").

I acquired the blueprints in late May of 2016 and started the model but I didn't have any motivation to finish it until the brand-new William Boyce Thompson Field House was opened on January 27, 2018 to much fanfare and excitement. The event was very well organized and respectful to the alumni who longed for the Cage while also being forward looking. My hope is that I can build a full model of the Cage to be placed in front of the Cage memorial in the lobby.
