Pentomino Starter Set 2

Here a second pentomino starter set which uses boxes as targets. Filling the boxes makes the puzzles more interesting and satisfying. Three simple puzzles are created from two sets of three pentominos.

One set, the base, is composed of the 3 pentominos L, P, and Y. A second set, the addenda, is made of pentominos V, W, and Z. The problems are created by adding a single pentomino from the addenda to the base set. The goal is to create a 4x5 rectangle. As an aid, a target, a box of the right size, is provided.

If the Z pentomino is chosen a single arrangement of pieces is the only answer. If the V pentomino is chosen three arrangements of pieces can be found and if the W pentomino is chosen five different arrangements of pieces can occur. The nine possible solutions are shown below.

Two boxes that hold the complete set of 6 pentominos are also provided. One is marked on the bottom to make it easy to return the pieces to the box. The second box is unmarked and serves a
