This lesson is designed for a STEM technology education course whereby students will be presented with a lecture that will teach them the basics of 3D printing, the parts of an FDM printer, the applications for 3D printing, and how to use a CAD software, TinkerCad. During this lesson, 9th-12th graders will learn the basics of computer aided design (CAD) on TinkerCad by creating a phone stand. This project will tie in skills from geometry and physics, focusing on the weight, balance, and dimensions needed to properly support the phone. Based on this information they will be tasked with designing and printing a phone stand that can hold their phone upright for at least 10 seconds. They will then go through the iterative innovative design process for creating this phone stand.
