This tool is used to check the heights of the sharp keys on an acoustic piano. A M3 bolt about 5-6mm long is needed to hold the plunger from falling out during key leveling. The bolt will cut its own threads into the plastic. Leave the bolt loose enough so the plunger can move but not fall out.

To use:

Your white keys have to be level before you can level the sharp keys.

With the M3 bolt loose enough to let the plunger move up and down without falling out, lower the threaded tube until the plunger just touches a key that has been set to the correct height. Lock it there with the plastic knob. Move the tool to another key and see if the height is the same. If there is a gap between the tool and the key, the key needs to be raised. If the key pushes the plunger up, it needs to be lowered.

For key dip, level the sharp keys first. Line up the notch (see the photo with the red arrow) to the tube, leave the M3 bolt loose so the plunger can fall out, and see if the key drops 3/8"
