A mutli-turn variable resistor or potentiometer changes its electrical resistance as the shaft is rotated. It takes typically 10 full turns of the shaft to move from zero to maximum resistance. It as 3 electrical terminals, one each at either end of the resistance range, that is zero and maximum resistance. A third terminal for the centre moving wiper. Here is my 3D model of a multi-turn potentiometer.
If you're like me, it doesn't matter how much care you take, it's still possible to miss details in the 3D design. Typical missed details that will lead you into problems include:
- Parts encroaching on others.
- Hole spacings misaligned.
A 3D model of each component incorporated into your design helps avoid some of the design pitfalls.
I've included the Fusion 360 CAD file to assist people to incorporate the model into their designs.
My print is made in PETG 1.75mm Aurarum neutral filament, with 0.2mm layer height and 15% infill on a PRUSA I3 MK3S printer.
