This Print Kit provides students a kinesthetic experience with infills and shells The heft and rigidity of the gears is prevalent as the students explore each piece.
In order to print the kit successfully, each gear must be printed SEPARATELY with the appropriate infill and shell settings. The number on the top of the gear indicates the number of shells. I choose 10% 255 and 50% for the infills of the gears with 2, 6, and 10 shells. This project can be customized to add more gradiants.
A second way to use this kit is to create a Design Challenge for the students. Ask them to create gears with different infills and shells. After printing, challenge other students to estimate the infill and shells.
