Yet the Blight descended upon these lands, and their prayers availed them nothing. The plague spared their flesh but seeped into their dreams, nesting in their minds. Their devotion to the holy turned to blind madness. Now any who cross the threshold of the once-sacred place are foes. Icons have become shields, shards of stained-glass bearing saints’ faces have become blades, and heavy crucifixes are wielded as clubs. None shall be spared, in the name of the Madonna of the Forest.
