Quail Figurine

A shiny white porcelain quail found in a Goodwill store. Google's AI overview from an image search suggests that it was made in Japan and a popular decorative item during the middle of the last century; often sold in sets. The stl file is at full scale; the smaller versions in the image are at half and three quarter scale.

How Done

Revopoint's POP 3 Plus 3D Scanner was used. White objects scan well. However the quail is hollow with an irregular bottom that contains a hole. It was placed on a layer of white clay that was included with the scan. The resulting stl file was edited to include as much of the quail as possible. A bit of clay is visible near the end of the tail. The extreme tip of the tail was cut off when a flat surface suitable for printing was created.
