I've made myself a holder for my Oculus Quest 2 VR controllers to hang it on a 3 cm thick windowsill. The holder goes 4,7 cm deep into the mounting surface.
It's quite sturdy and I imagine it can be used with various VR controllers and various 3 cm thick surface edges.
