I'm dubious about the strength of FDM-printed models. Specifically layer adhesion vs. torque in narrow members. Most of my prints have presented no problems at all -- I have a 75mm Companion Cube printed in PLA that I like to beat against desks to the amazement of onlookers. But I've had several working parts fail in use due to layer delamination.
I love the idea of DIY RAM-compatible components. However, the real thing is made with metal, which is of course much more durable in this sort of application. So why not try adding a little metal to these DIY components?
Supports might be tricky here. They'll be needed in the recess for the screw head, but hopefully won't be needed anywhere else. I'm not sure how the M6 threads will turn out without it, but I'm sure cleaning the supports out of the threads would be a nightmare. I set the angle of the end of the screw hole to 85° so supports won't be necessary there. To sidestep the issue entirely, I've designed the 1/4" model with a re
