I made this rack to keep my Raspberry Pi Zero Ws organized while I am doing collective maintenance on them or to store them in a compact manner.
The rack is made to fit this case: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2575670 (Note: the top and bottom of wassupdoc's case fits tightly when pushed together and won't come back apart without breaking the pins in the corner. I liked this because most of the other cases I tried had loose tops unless you tweaked the parameters through several iterations to make it perfect.)
I only have Pi Zero Ws so I didn't bother to check wassupdoc's case for a Pi Zero (not W) fit.
I insert the cases with the micro SD card facing down so I can see the indicator lights on each Pi. However, the cutout in the side of the rack is positioned to allow access to the HDMI port or power port if you wish to insert them in the opposite direction.
There were no thermal considerations in my design. The rack is only intended to conveniently hold multiple Pi Zero
