Record Player Automaton

This project was to create an automaton, which is a self-operating machine. My partner, Shashwath Ramji, and I chose to recreate a vintage record player. We created an interactive model for the viewer which allows for movement, instead of stiffness. To create the movement, the five cams on the camshaft turn in response to the cranking of the handle due to the gears rotating the long center rods. The movement of the cams pushes the items connecting them, which in turn moves the scene components and makes the record player look like its playing. All of the pieces move depending on the shape of their cam, which we created based on the function of the components. The overall dimensions of the project are 24 cm x 20 cm x 5 cm.
