(Revised) In light of the shortage of respirators I have designed a prototype mask concept. This is just a prototype: not a substitute for proper medical equipment. The intention of the design is to better utilize filter materials where proper equipment is not available.
Concealed behind the front of the mask on both sides are 5/8" diameter cutouts where a filter material can be attached via adhesive or a common snap bushing/grommet.
Towards the back of both sides is a 1/4" hole which a string, shoelace, or elastic material can pass through and be cinched to provide a tight fit.
Everyone's face is unique and therefore the contour may not provide the best fit. The addition of foam adhesive tape to the interior edge can improve comfort and ingress protection on harder plastics; however, this design would likely function best when produced with a more flexible material.
