This hand is made to Loosely function the way a human hand does. By weaving rubber bands, or other elastic fasteners through the top of the hand, through the built in cavities, you can mimic the way a normal hand would recoil after being closed into a fist. You can then fishing line or string through the bottom of the hand and fingers to act as tendons, so that the hand will open and close at will. Relaxing the strings would thus let the hand open back up due to the rubber bands pulling on the opposite side of the hand. All in all, this hand would help teach the dynamics of a human hand in action.

This hand would require rods of some kind to be inserted in the knuckles, as these parts don't "snap" together. Better yet, students could be tasked with designing clips and rods to fit in the knuckles off a 3D design engine, such as Inventor. You could even go as far as to design a wrist portion to attach to the end of a broom stick or something of that sort to extend the reach.
