Rodent brain section guide

This is a guide for section rodent brains into 1 mm sections at room temperature. It has a base and a frame. I first place the frame on a piece of gauze. Then place the brain on the gauze and in the frame. The ventral surface of the brain is facing up for identifying the land marks. I then place two razor blades into the slots to get a 1 mm section. The entire assembly (gauze, frame, brain, blades) are then moved onto the base. Pushing the assembly down into the base release the two blades, together with the slice of the brain.This can then be dropped into cold aCSF or saline.
