This is my design for the rodholder contest of Trapper Canoes. The materials that I used in my design are: wood, aluminum (polished where visible), corck and standard stainless steel (bolts and screws). Why those materials: Corck: it is elastic (35% compressible rate), moisture resistant , environmental friendly (rubber colored parts), Wood: very hard, strong, durable and looks great Aluminum: lightweight and strong, can be recycled Stainless steel bolts and screws: don't rust and are strong standard parts The 2 shackle screws, holder screw and base screw are fabricated in one piece, this means that the knob isn’t made from plastic. They are made out of stainless steel and the knobs are polished for a smoother look. The aluminum plugs provide a better distribution of the force used for clamping. Most people are right handed, they will use their right hand to put the rod in the position they like with the right hand and tighten the screws with their left hand. This is why the base screw for rotating 360° is placed on the left. But it is possible to relocate the position of the screw (6 X 60°). The shackle screw feet are able to adjust themselves when the contour of the canoe isn’t straight. They also have patches fabricated of corck to avoid any damage to the canoe. To achieve a rod holder as strong as possible it is necessary that the wood is glued together from thin sheets. No paint is needed to coat the pieces, the wood will need some varnish from time to time. Depending on the type of varnish you can create a darker or lighter appearance of the wood. The inside of the holder could be clothed with a thin layer of corck, rubber or with leather. All parts are easy to machine. Why do I think that this design matches the trapper canoes brand? Using materials that are environment friendly to become a product that is robust, good looking and that will do the job regardless the weather is what the brand stands for.
