This is a remix of ***random-builder’s*** **great** design [Rotor: Filament Encoder (thing:2515750)] (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2515750).
I ran into a few issues in my build and ended up with the below modifications. There were not any radical changes so the instructions and BOM in [Rotor: Filament Encoder (thing:2515750)] (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2515750) can be used almost as is for this remix.
### Smoothiware settings
I found the following to work reliably for me:
**filament_detector.seconds_per_check 20 **
**filament_detector.pulses_per_mm 0.86**
You may be able to cut back on the 20 seconds.
I never did make sense of how these settings and M407 interacted.
### Additional components needed:
- M3 x10 flat head bolt
- M3 – M5 washer
- 67k 1/8W resistor (optional)

- Moved the spring pocket to maximize the force applied to the gear. This gave ab
