Royal Baroque Cabinet is a fully functional ornamental storage piece inspired by classical royal and late baroque furniture forms. The design centers around a single framed door panel, surrounded by layered scrollwork, floral relief, and a crowned crest at the top that gives the piece its regal character. The structure is compact but visually heavy, with curved legs, detailed corner elements, and a strong central façade that reads like a miniature palace front. The contrast between the richly decorated front and the cleaner side and back surfaces keeps the composition balanced rather than overwhelming. Inside, the cabinet reveals two internal shelves, turning the ornamental exterior into a practical storage piece. The door integrates cleanly into the frame and closes flush, maintaining the architectural integrity of the façade when shut. This piece focuses on proportion, ornament rhythm, and functional precision — merging decorative intensity with actual usability rather than remaining a purely sculptural object. This model was created as a fan request for a more royal, baroque-styled storage piece. It is also the first time I designed a fully functional hinged door, as most of my cabinets usually use pull-out drawer-style mechanisms. Surprisingly, Prototype 1 worked flawlessly — both in terms of print reliability and door mechanism sizing. The hinge clearances, arcs, and internal tolerances aligned perfectly on the first print, allowing smooth operation without post-adjustment. Designing the door mechanism and ensuring correct proportions, openings, and curvature for seamless function was especially enjoyable. Moving beyond the usual “box with a lid” approach made this project particularly satisfying to develop.
