Saichania hueforge

Saichania was a heavily armoured dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 75 to 70 million years ago, in what is now Mongolia. The name Saichania means “beautiful one” in Mongolian, a reference to the exceptional preservation and intricate detail of its fossilised armour when it was first discovered. Belonging to the family Ankylosauridae, Saichania was a close relative of the more widely known Ankylosaurus, sharing many of its distinctive features but possessing its own unique adaptations suited to a harsh desert environment. It was a quadrupedal herbivore, low to the ground, with a broad and flat body encased in thick, bony armour plates called osteoderms. These covered almost every part of its upper body, forming an almost impenetrable shell. The back was studded with large, knob-like or conical scutes, while the sides bore smaller, interlocking plates that provided flexibility and defence.
