Ahmed Sharara and I, Rushil Patel, have created an adaptive spoon for persons with restricted mobility who find it difficult to eat with a normal spoon. Basically, it stays balanced and retains the food no matter how it is held.
Currently, two options in the market are the Elispoon and Liftware.
The Elispoon is "a spill-proof spoon designed to compensate for the user’s movements and keep the food in the spatula", according to their website. It is not electronic, just like our spoon, but it costs $94 for a teaspoon and $99 for a soup spoon.
Liftware Level has self-stabilizing electronic technology. The Liftware Level starter kit costs $195.
However, one of our models costs us about $3 in materials and around 30 minutes of post-production work to create.
Ahmed and I are both students at Concord High School in Wilmington
