I was looking for a way to expand from the inside. So I came up with the idea of designing a version that would hook into the pre-existing holes inside my bathroom storage cabinets. So there's no need to glue anything, just insert into the pre-existing holes that normally serve to adjust the height of the shelves. You may have to lightly sand the end if the hole sizes aren't identical, but chances are it'll be adequate without sanding. Pre-drilled holes are a standard format.
