The purpose of the car was to travel a distance of 2.5m only using a battery powered motor and propeller and wheels. The way the car works is that once the switch is flipped on the propeller the chemical potential energy of the battery gets converted to electrical energy and flows along the wires. As it flows the wires heat up and some of the electrical energy is converted to the thermal energy in the wires. Then the electrical energy is converted to mechanical kinetic energy of the motor as it spins the shaft which in turn spins the propeller. As the propeller spins it has kinetic energy so some of the mechanical energy gets lost as its converted to this kinetic energy. As the propellers spin they push against the air which in turn push back against the propeller(and the car) creating thrust which provides the force for the car to move.
